A study of Japanese influenced packaging design for Thai products

Abstract

Over the past decade until now, Japanese design has been playing a significant impact on Japanese packaging design industry, and it has become more and more a substantial trend in nowadays. Good packaging is an essential part of any product. Basically, the packaging is just a container which can present and advertise the product itself. Japanese packaging takes care to balance both form and function. Thus, the designers need to concern not only the aesthetic of the packaging but also the function and sustainable materials. The characteristics of Japanese design style is unique and minimal. This is why Japanese design becomes trending in this period. As a graphic designer, it is common to use a Japanese design as a reference for their works and if the designer understands more and more in-depth of how Japanese design is outstanding and adjust to their creative work for the better outcome. The research is significant explores the design strategy of Japanese packaging and how to adapt and apply on Thai products

  • The purpose of this phase was to revealed how manage the data of 50 pieces of Japanese packaging by using statistical analysis. This was important to scope the idea by looking into the majority of the design market and use the result percentage from the statistic just to guide and adapt into the design.

  • The purpose of this phase was to design three Thai products packaging by using the result percentage from the statistic from  phase one. This was important to show that 
the design from statistical analysis cannot shows the sense of Japanese because of the current set of the principles are too general.
