Discussions of Personality and Personal Effects–Visual Communication and Publication Design as a Tool for Complimenting Collections.

Abstract

This fourteen week artifact led research project sought to create and explore intersections between personality, personal effects, curation and collections through visual communication and publication design.

This act of making, as reflected in a series of three publications named ‘programmes’ successfully communicates the surface levels details of personal effects, but more importantly has contributed to the illumination of relationships between otherwise disparate and seemingly unrelated objects and artifacts–namely found photographic content, personal/domestic effects, and pre-recorded music.

Complementing typographic, compositional and technical considerations, this project employed various photo-imaging techniques including DSLR cameras, film digitisation equipment, and flatbed scanners which allowed for the engagement of perspective and the realisation of detail and narrative otherwise overlooked.
